Clachtoll Beach Campsite is a family-run site on the Assynt coast, five miles north of Lochinver, set directly behind a sweep of white sand and clear water that's one of the most photographed beaches on the North Coast 500. Pitches are a mix of serviced grass pitches, with water and electricity at every stance, and unserviced ones further back, all overlooking the beach and the hills of Quinag and Canisp inland. The site punches above its weight on facilities for somewhere this remote, with free hot showers, a laundrette, kitchen with gas hobs and ovens, a small shop, and free loan of kayaks, paddleboards and wetsuits for guests who fancy getting into the water. Campfires are allowed on the beach most nights, weather permitting, which makes for a proper end to a day on the NC500.
