About this campsite
Cwmdu has been a family-run campsite since 1964, set in the village of the same name at the eastern edge of the Black Mountains, roughly halfway between Crickhowell, Brecon and Talgarth. It's grown well beyond a simple field over the decades — log pods, shepherd's huts and holiday cottages sit alongside the touring and tent pitches, and there's an on-site shop, a coffee shop, and even a wood-fired sauna and ice bath, which isn't something you expect to find on a Beacons campsite. Electric hook-ups, modern showers and a laundry room make it comfortable for longer stays, while off-ground fire pits and a children's play area keep it easygoing for families. Walking straight from the gate takes you into proper Black Mountains country, with Waun Fach and the long ridges above Talgarth within reach, and it's picked up Visit Wales and regional awards for best campsite in the years since it modernised. It's understandably popular, so it's a site to book rather than chance.
