Housedean Farm Campsite
Brighton Road, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7 3JW

About this campsite
Housedean Farm is a working sheep farm campsite squeezed into a fold of the South Downs between Lewes and Brighton, and it happens to sit directly on the South Downs Way, so walkers and cyclists can pitch up without detouring off the trail. Around 25 grass pitches are spread across an open, sloping field with wide views over the surrounding downland, and campfires are allowed in raised pits. Alongside the tent pitches there are a handful of insulated camping pods and a Pig Ark shepherd's-hut-style cabin with its own outdoor sauna, for anyone who wants a roof without bringing a tent. Facilities are simple but well kept, with open-air hot showers, a small on-site shop selling freshly ground coffee and basics, and a bus stop right outside with frequent services into Lewes and Brighton. Ditchling Beacon is around five miles off and Devil's Dyke about ten, so it's a good base for a few days of downland walking as well as an overnight stop for South Downs Way through-hikers.
