About this campsite
The Shore Caravan Site sits right behind Achmelvich Bay, a cove of turquoise water and white sand in Assynt that regularly gets voted among the best beaches in Scotland. This is crofting-trust ground rather than a manicured holiday park: pitches are informal and unallocated, spread across grass above the beach, and the whole place has a relaxed, first-come feel that regulars come back for year after year. There's a fish and chip shop and small shop on site for basics, hot showers and a laundrette, and Lochinver with its harbour, restaurants and the mountains of Suilven and Canisp are a short drive south. Note that dogs aren't permitted here, which keeps the dunes and machair popular with ground-nesting birds.
