About this campsite

North Lees is run by the Peak District National Park Authority itself, in a sheltered valley a mile and a half north of Hathersage, directly below the gritstone edge of Stanage and within sight of the tower at North Lees Hall (said to have inspired Charlotte Brontë's Thornfield Hall). It's a walkers' and climbers' site rather than a touring park: three gently sloping fields take tents and small campervans only, up to VW or Sprinter size, with proper flush toilets, hot showers and a drying room for wet kit. A cluster of insulated camping pods, including a family size and an accessible one, gives a warmer option outside the main season. There's a small on-site shop for essentials, and Stanage Edge, one of the Peak District's best-known climbing and bouldering venues, is a short walk from the gate.
