Wasdale Campsite
Wasdale Head, Seascale, Cumbria, CA20 1EX

About this campsite
Run by the National Trust at the head of Wastwater, England's deepest lake, this is one of the most dramatically sited campsites in the Lake District. Pitches spread across hedge-divided fields beneath Great Gable, Scafell Pike and the famous screes, with the Wasdale Head Inn a mile's walk away for anyone who fancies a pint after a day on the fells. Tents share the grass with hardstanding pitches for campervans, and there's a small cluster of camping pods and canvas tipis for those travelling without their own kit. It's popular with climbers and hillwalkers heading for the classic Lakeland peaks, and the narrow lakeside road in means it's best not attempted by nervous drivers towing anything large. A well-stocked shop, drying room and dog wash keep things comfortable after a wet day on the tops.
